LONG-SERVING pro Tom Collins never got the world
light-heavyweight title fight that was dangled before him
earlier this year, but he earns from defending his
European crown against Dutchman Pedro van Raamsdonk
on the Reading show, writes TIM MO.
Collins won the EBU title in stunning fashion by
flattening another Netherlands boxer, Alex Blanchard,
in two rounds. This will be his first defence.

MANY Americans got their first look at Jeff Fencch as the
Aussie hard man h a m m e r e d Tyrone Downes in five rounds
to retain his World Boxing Council featherweight title. CBS
showed the fight from Melbourne, tape delayed from the
night before.

HE WAS born in South Africa, was an oustanding amateur there, started his pro career at
London's Blackfriars Ring, returned to South Africa at the outbreak of World War II, won
the national lightweight and welterweight titles, drew with his idol Laurie Stevens, later
returning to London to settle there, and where he has been living quietly for many years.
His name is Alf James.

DUKE McKENZIE finally gets the chance to
fight for a world flyweight title when he meets
ROLANDO BOHOL of the Philippines for the
IBF 8st crown at Wembley on October 5.
