THERE was in the end no revenge for Dave "Boy"
McAuley as the Larne man was soundly outpointed
over 12 rounds by Fidel Bassa at the King's Hall in his
second challenge for the Colombian's WBA
flyweight title.
Their first title fight at this same arena 11 months ago was
an oustanding choice for Fight of the Year with both men
being on the floor several times before Bassa's extra
experience took him to a 13th round knockout, but this time
the contrast was complete.

A THIRD shot at the British welterweight title now
beckons for Rocky Kelly after the Acton action man
retained his Southern Area l0st 71bs crown with a thrilling
eighth round stoppage of Camden Town challenger David
Dent at York Hall.
Referee Sid Nathan called it off after one minute five
seconds of the round with Dent suffering from a badly
swollen right eye, much to the chagrin of the challenger.

WEST HAM'S Mo Hussein retained his Commonwealth
lightweight title for the second time
when Bacup challenger Brian Roche retired with
a broken right hand at the end of the fifth of their
scheduled 12-rounderon Frank Warren's Seconds
Out show at York Hall.

JOHN LYON, the amiable St Helens family man,
travels south to Gloucester for Wednesday's
(April 6) George Wimpey sponsored All-England
Championships just three victories away from
making history as the most successful A B A title
campaigner of all time.

ON the brink of defeat in the first round. Warren Dunn
f r om Harrow found the perfect right hand to knock out
Welsh schoolboy champion Gareth Lovell in the second
round to deservedly win the Senior 57 kg national
schoolboy title at the Assembly Rooms.
