BOXING is the most unforgiving sport — one mistake can
negate a lifetime's dedication and Herol Graham and his
handlers may rue for years both the decision to risk his
European title and world challenger status against Sambu
Kalambay and the out-of-character aggression which lost
him the verdict.

PATRIZIO OLIVA is one of the most
successful of all of the fighters active today. He
won a large number of amateur titles including
a silver medal in the European Championships
and a gold medal in the 1980 Olympic Games.
The success story has continued in the
professional ranks where he has won the
Italian and European light-welterweight titles
and finally the WBA crown.

ROARED on by a wildly excited home-town crowd, Leslie
Stewart became Trinidad's first world champion as he
pounded a brave Marvin Johnson into defeat in eight
one-sided but exciting rounds to capture the World Boxing
Association light-heavyweight title.
The defeat means the end of the road for the baldheaded,
33-year-old Johnson,
ica's mid-West. He hinted
strongly afterwards that this
was his last fight, although he
won't make an official
announcement until he's talked
it over with his trainer.

FORMER triple world champion Roberto Duran launched
his latest comeback in the middleweight division by
pounding out a unanimous 10-round decision over Victor
Claudio, a former Olympic representative for Puerto Rico,
at the Convention Centre.

IT is good to see t h e revival in Jamaican boxing continuing,
but unusual to see it sparked by a flyweight. Richard Clarke
is the man who is pulling in the crowds.
Clarke won his fourth title with a unanimous decision
over the former Mexican champion Jimmy Fernandez in a
bout billed as being for the vacant junior WBC flyweight
title.
