champion Lloyd Christie has finally started to earn recognition as an
internatinal-calibre fighter for whom a European crown is a realistic target.
The 24-year-old f r om Coventry showed that his British title win over Tony
McKenzie was not a one-off result, as he ground down the brave resistance
o f f e r e d by Commonwealth lightweight king Mo Hussein to put the second notch
on his Lonsdale Belt.

TERRY MARSH is quite adamant that his first defence of the IBF light-welterweight
title at the Albert Hall on Wednesday will also be his last, yet there seems to be a twinkle
in the chirpy fireman's blue eyes even as he disclaims further ambitions in the ring —
and, strangest of all, present at ringside for Marsh's fight against the Japanese Akio
Kameda will be former world junior-lightweight and lightweight champion Hector
Camacho.

CARL "THE TRUTH" WILLIAMS put himself right
back in the heavyweight big time as he outclassed and
hammered Smokin' Bert Cooper to win on a corner
retirement at the end of seven rounds of a scheduled
12-rounder at Resorts International casino hotel.
Williams, having his first bout since being shocked in two
rounds by Mike Weaver 16 months ago, captured the
vacant United States Boxing Association title. But more
important, the victory re-established him as a world title
contender.
