EXCITING Scottish flyweights Pat Clinton and Joe Kelly
renew their keen rivalry when they meet in a final
eliminator for the British flyweight title at the York Hall,
Bethnal Green, on Tuesday.
Their paths crossed several times as amateurs, both being
born in the same year (1964) and both emerging at around
the same time (late 1981 — early 1982).
And with this fight going out on television as part of
ITV's new Seconds Out series (in conjunction with Frank
Warren, the promoter of this show) both should have all the
incentive they could possibly want to put on a good display.

TONY WILLIS finally gets to defend his British lightweight title against
unbeaten Scottish challenger Alex Dickson when the two meet at the
Exhibition Centre, Glasgow on Thursday (September 24).
The two southpaws were originally scheduled to meet at Livingstone in
May, but Willis, a Birmingham-based Liverpudlian, was forced to pull out
with a virus.

THE first full England squad of the season met recently at Crystal Palace on the eve of a
busy three-month schedule.
Before Christmas the full England squad will have boxed three full internationals and
taken part in three multi-nations tournaments. The fixture list, so often an open target for
criticism, features a couple of dates which overlap.

CENTRAL area pro featherweight champion John Farrell
showed he is in fine fettle for his final eliminator with Peter
Harris by taking two days off training to open a new boxing
club in Seaford, Sussex.
Farrell, who helped paint the gym during his summer stay
with his family who now live in Eastbourne said; "Brendan
Ingle, my trainer, did not mind the slightest in me coming
down, in fact he jumped at the idea of me having a few
days away from Sheffield.

The vital week starts with the re-opening of the St
Andrews Sporting Club on Monday September 21 with the
British lightweight eliminator between Dundee's Billy
Buchanan and Steve Boyle of Glasgow. They fight for the
Scottish title as well.
