A LONG, glorious career came to an end as Cornelius
Boza-Edwards was knocked out in the fifth of a scheduled
12-rounder for the WBC lightweight title by Mexico's Jose
Luis Ramirez at the Zenith.
Boza, a Ugandan-born, Las Vegas-domiciled British
passport holder, will now concentrate on running a Mercedes
garage in Las Vegas. He took heavy punishment against the
tough Ramirez — just as he seems to have done in most of
his major fights in recent years — and this time he just could
not pull it out of the fire.
THE battle between Mike Tyson and Tyrell Biggs,
tonight (Friday), will be a battle of contrasts: Tyson, a
short, aggressive, big-punching bull against Biggs, a tall,
fast, slick boxing stylist, writes Eric Armit.
However, the contrast is not just one of ring styles,
their backgrounds are also vastly different.
Tyson was born in a ghetto, raised in crime, without a
settled family life and had only a very short campaign as
an amateur.
FORGET the big odds in favour of Mike Tyson over Tyrell
Biggs in tonight's heavyweight title fight at Atlantic City's
Convention Hall. This is a stiff test and potentially the most
difficult fight of Tyson's so-far rampaging career.
Tyson's fight against Tony Tucker on August 1 showed
that Iron Mike might not be quite the devastating puncher
we thought. Tucker took his best blows and never looked
like going down.
DENNIS ANDRIES, Britain's former World Boxing
Council light-heavyweight champion, took the first step
back after losing his title to Thomas Hearns as he pounded
out a unanimous 10-round decision over Robert Folley,
from Arizona.
