BRITISH and Commonwealth heavyweight champion
Horace Notice summarily dismissed the challenge of
Geordie giant Paul Lister inside three rounds at the
Crowtree Leisure Centre.
Notice became the first heavyweight since Henry Cooper nearly
20 years ago to make the Lonsdale Belt his own property.
"That means a lot to me. And now I want a European title fight,"
said Notice, who celebrated his win with a dip in the Leisure Centre
pool with trainer George Francis

ALL RIGHT, I'm convinced. Mike Tyson is the real thing, an
exceptional heavyweight who may one day rank with the greats.
Doubts were setting in after the bore with Bonecrusher Smith
and an unsensational points win over Tony Tucker.
Tyson's unbeaten record, his string of early blast-outs and a
couple of dramatic performances at top level had raised
expectations.

JYVASKYLA, Finland — October 26: Former Southern middleweight
champion JAMES COOK was outpointed over 10 rounds by local hero
TARMO UUSIVIRTA in a fight postponed from October 16.
Uusivirta, a former double silver medallist in the world amateur
championships, was just too strong for Cook, flooring him in the sixth on the
way to a unanimous decision.
The other British Tighter on the bill also lost, London light-heavyweight
TOMMY BECKETT was stopped in the first of a scheduled six rounder by
ROLAND ERIKSSON of Sweden. The referee called it off after 62 seconds.
Beckett had been floored twice.
