SOLID pro Lloyd Hibbert gets the reward of eight
years' service when he challenges Nick Wilshire for
the latter's Commonwealth light-middleweight title
over 12 rounds at the Albert Hall, writes TIM MO.
The fight, which is also for the vacant British title,
is a rematch, Hibbert having forced Wilshire to retire
after eight bruising rounds when they last met just
over a year ago in a non-title 10 rounder.
Hibbert has been plagued by accidents and bad
luck and has never had the breaks his ability
deserves. Much worse boxers have become British
champions.

RISING Kirkby featherweight prospect Paul Hodkinson
took his run of paid wins to six when his opponent Kamel
Djadda of Paris was stopped with a badly cut left eye after
the fourth of their eight round main event at the York Hall.
The cut had appeared at the start of the fourth round, and
while it had not bled too heavily its nasty position along
the left eyelid  justified Mr Nathan's stoppage in the
interval between the fourth and fifth rounds.

I R I SH title fights are about as plentiful as sun-tanned
Eskimos. But one of those r a r e events crops u p on March
18, when Harry Cowap defends his Irish light-heavyweight
championship against Sean O'Phoenix.
Not surprisingly, in view of the d e a r t h of Irish promotions,
the contest will be staged at a London venue, the
Porchester Hall.

D O U B L E ABA finalist Mark Elliot outclassed
Lincolnshire trier Mark McCreath to retain his
Midlands Counties welterweight title at Willenhall.
Elliot, who suffered a cut in t h e Birmingham finals,
is improving steadily as the campaign goes on.
McCreath, from Brazebridge, was never hurt — but
never a threat either as the clever Elliot boxed his
way to a unanimous decision.
Birmingham City's exciting light-heavyweight
John Foreman took a unanimous verdict in a war with
lan Bullock f r om SAPA. Bullock was the man who
eliminated ABA heavyweight champ Eric Cardouza
in the previous round.
