THERE is a busy run-in to Christmas with
Michael Brodie's European super-bantam title
clash against Italian champion Vincenzo
Gigliotti at Bowlers, Manchester, scheduled
originally for December 14, being brought
forward to December 4.
The show, to be staged by Ringside
Promotions, will feature Steve Robinson's
mandatory European featherweight title defence
against British champion Jon Jo Irwin.
The later date will now be filled by Coventry
super-featherweight Dean Pilhie in a hometown
defence of his WBC International title.
And Matchroom, who have a 50 per cent share
in Ringside Promotions, stage a show at York
Hall, Bethnal Green on December 20 with
Michael Ayers defending his IBO lightweight
crown against Aussie veteran Tony Miller.
A PREDICTABLY easy win
for former WBO lightheavy
title challenger Mark
Prince, having his first fight at
cruiser, saw Brockley's Kevin
Mitchell hammered to defeat
in 43 seconds of a scheduled
eight-round mismatch.
It was as if Mark was trying
to nail his fellow-Londoner to
the canvas with his right in the
short time it lasted.
PICK of the Hull undercard may well be
the 12-rounder which sees Scottish
prospect Scott Harrison take on
Ghana's Eric Odumasi for the vacant
Commonwealth featherweight title.
The crown has been given up by maineventer
Paul Ingle, and as Odumasi is
managed by former two-weight champion
Azumah Nelson (himself a former holder of
this title) and Yoofi Boham, it can be
assumed he is no mug
WHILE the 1990s have
been woeful for Scottish
boxing, Cambuslang's
former amateur standout Scott
Harrison can begin to put that
right when he meets Ghana's
Eric Odumasi for the vacant
Commonwealth featherweight
title on the big Hull Arena show
tomorrow.
