FORMER European middleweight champion
Francesco Deii'Aquila (34) of Italy was arrested
in Genoa on Friday November 13 - unlucky for
him - on charges of possessing cocaine.
Working as a bouncer in a city centre discotheque,
Dell'Aquila was followed for several
days by investigators before being arrested in
the street. He is suspected of procuring cocaine
to hand on to clients and friends.
Dell'Aquila held the EBU crown from 1989-90
and lost an IBF title challenge to James Toney in
1993.

OSCAR DE LA HOYA will box at Madison Square
Garden, New York on February 26.
His opponent will either be Derrell Coley, possibly
for a Mickey Mouse version of the welter
title, WBO champion Ahmed Kotiev or
Australian Shannan Taylor.
Vernon Forrest was named as another possibility,
but it seems unlikely.
The reason Coley remains in the equation is
that there is more money to be made boxing De
La Hoya for a lesser title than taking on Felix
Trinidad for the WBC crown.

Winner also to blame
JOHNNY RUSHTON, Irwin's manager, hit back this week,
saying: "Robbo's people are saying we're guilty, guilty, guilty,
but Steve was at fault too for getting too close. All he did was
charge in - he'd have been better off on a rugby field.
"Good fighters find their distance - if Steve had stood off,
he'd have had his head jabbed off, so the mauling suited him
too. It was never going to be our night - Steve's getting the
big build-up with Sky and their chart had Jon Jo landing more
punches. Yet they dismissed that.
"I look on the bright side - Jon Jo lost a split decision to
the No. 1 contender so can't be too far down the list.
"I admit, desire did come into it. Jon Jo's a wealthy man,
has several properties, is the boss of a conservatory doubleglazing
firm and his wife's a schoolteacher. They have no
kids and great friends. They still had a celebration party.
"Jon Jo's got everything he wants in life but will fight on -
he wants major title fights and would love Paul Ingle again.
Robinson's great asset is his strength, but he's got little else."
