ADRIAN DODSON was well
ahead going into the last
against Alain Bonnamie for
the vacant Commonwealth
middleweight title on
Tuesday night. He then
proceeded to drop his
guard, get nailed, wobble all
over the place and try to
retrieve the situation by
biting the Canadian in the
stomach. Result, instant
disqualification with less
than a minute to go. It was
a shocking start to life as a
trainer for Spencer Oliver,
who said: "Adrian's going to
regret that to his dying day."

TWO Frank Maloney stars are scheduled to
return in Belfast on October 16 looking to
prove their best is not behind them.
PJ Gallagher, the 26-year-old former British
super-featherweight champion, has been in the
gym several months but not boxed since losing on
points over eight to Bamana Dibateza in Cheshunt
in February 1997.
That was Gallagher's first defeat after 17 wins
and he announced his retirement months later when
struck down by a worrying virus he could not shift.
Flyweight Damaen Kelly, who also lost his
unbeaten record last time out - on cuts in May
against Keith Knox - fights in a WBA Continental
title fight on the show. Kelly's injuries against
Knox were considered some of the worst cutsman
Mick Williamson had seen.
FRANK MALONEY, back from the Poconos in
Pennsylvania to attend last week's show at Bethnal
Green, is in Tibilisi, Georgia tonight (October 8)
when his heavyweight hope Georgie Kandelaki
boxes again.
Frank considers American veteran Mark Young
a step up in class, which he probably is compared
with Kimmuel Odum, Kandelaki's last victim,
whom he also said was a step up.
Young, 35, is no test, having lost inside the
distance to a multitude of contenders and former
champions like Bert Cooper, Mike Tyson, Gary
Mason, George Foreman, Greg Page, Shannon
Briggs, Zeljko Mavrovic and Hasim Rahman.
