THE Board has stripped Ensley Bingham of his
treasured British light-middleweight championship
following the Mancunian's knockout defeat by
South African Mpush Makambi at Coventry on
October 22.
But the veteran puncher from Moss Side is
threatening legal action to prevent a vacant title
fight between official challenger Wayne Alexander
and Paul Samuels going ahead, possibly in
Cardiff on December 11.
Purse bids for Bingham-Alexander match,
ordered before the Makambi defeat took place,
were won by Frank Warren, who intended to stage
the contest in Widnes tomorrow (November 6). But
following Bingham's loss - which carries an automatic
28-day suspension - Ensley was obviously
unable to defend his championship in time.
"It's the first time I've had a boxer knocked
out," said Billy Graham, Bingham's trainer.
"We thought we could do it. Ensley was superb
when we finished training. But he didn't feel sharp
on the night.

RICKY HATTON, the undefeated Manchester
light-welter star, has pulled out of a scheduled
appearance at York Hall, Bethnal Green on
November 15 because of a cold.
Trainer Billy Graham says Hatton was a week
behind in his training. "It's best to be safe than
sorry. We were looking forward to boxing at York
Hall. Hopefully, Ricky will fight again before
Christmas. He's so keen."

BILLY SCHWER'S WBC lightweight title challenge
against American Stevie Johnston at Wembley
Arena on November 29 is a cracker - and the
undercard is shaping up nicely, too.
Along with Stephen Smith challenging Bobby
Vanzie for the British and Commonwealth titles at
the same weight, add an eight-rounder at lightheavy
between Mark Delaney and Ali Forbes,
plus a cruiserweight match featuring Dominic
Negus against Chris P. Bacon, the Manchesterbased
Aussie, and it could turn out to be a
memorable evening.-
Promoter Frank Maloney's East European
contingent of heavyweight Georgie Kandelaki
and lightweight Koba Gogoladze also appear as
well as busy-punching lightweight Graham Earl
and heavyweight Mark Potter. Tickets start at
£30, with ringside seats going for £110.

PAT MULLINGS is ready to
reclaim the British superbantamweight
crown against
MICHAEL ALLDIS - a man he beat
in the 1992 ABA bantam final - in a
vacant title showdown at York Hall,
Bethnal Green tomorrow night
Mullings won the title (vacated by Michael
Brodie) with a close, controversial decision
over Scodand's Brian Carr in February, but lost
it two months later to Carr's countryman and
mate Drew Docherty in an equally close,
gruelling 12-rounder.
