ROY JONES' next appearance, a world light-heavy title
defence at the Radio City Music Hall, New York on
January 15, will be against David Telesco.
It is a match Jones has wanted for some time - the
pair are said to dislike each other.
They came face to face this week to make the match
official. "You have to respect him," said Jones, "for him
to know he's going to get beaten and still go around
begging for that beating."
Original opponent, German Graciano Rocchigiani,
reportedly didn't have enough time to prepare. The
venue, which has recently undergone a $70m face lift,
has never been used for boxing before.

ANDREW GOLOTA has lost every major fight of his pro
career yet, despite going down to a 10th-round defeat
by Michael Grant in Atlantic City last month, the Pole
has more mileage left in him.
For 10 rounds he is a threat to nearly anyone and no
wonder Kathy Duva, now head at Main Events, is trying
to match him against Mike Tyson in a clash of the
Bad Boys.
Golota, who had Grant down twice in the first, said
at the finish: "I blew up the fight. I was frustrated in the
last few rounds."

WILL HE CATCH BASSEY ON THE HOP? That's what the caption
which accompanied this March 26, 1957 picture asked of Percy
Lewis as he put the finishing touches to his preparation at the
Thomas A'Becket for his Empire (Commonwealth) featherweight
title challenge to old foe Hogan "Kid" Bassey in Nottingham six
days later.
Lewis, outpointed by Bassey over eight in 1955, was decisioned
over 15 this time by a man who would win the world title two
fights later. Percy, who'll hopefully be at the next LEBA meeting,
came here f r om his native Trinidad in 1944 and boxed for Britain
in t h e 1952 Olympics in Helsinki.
