FIRST Oscar De La Hoya, then Felix Trinidad, now
Evander Holyfield. Because the "Real Deal",
usually so accessible in the build up to a big fight,
has closed the doors to his training camp in
Houston as he prepares for the rematch against
Lennox Lewis in Las Vegas on November 13.
Holyfield wouldn't say what his plan was, but
advisor Jim Thomas reckoned all would become
apparent soon enough.
Lewis is based in the Poconos, where Naseem
Hamed is also in training. The two have been running
and relaxing together. But Lennox's workouts
highlight his desire to be more aggressive, though
Holyfield insists Lewis can't knock him out.

STOKE cruiserweight Steve Loftus rang to inform
us of the tragic death of 33-year-old Craig Thoriey
from nearby Burslem, who took his own life on
September 13 after a short bout of depression.
Thorley, whom Loftus said was a "dedicated
boxing man", held a second's licence and often
worked the corner on Ron Gray and Pat Brogan
promotions. His funeral took place at St.
Bartholomew Church in Blurton, Staffs last week.

LLOYD HONEYGHAN is calling his October 30 promotion
at the Elephant and Castle Leisure Centre
"Fright Night".
The former undisputed world welterweight champion
is promising a celebrity audience and a six-fight bill
featuring the comeback of Brixton's Cham Joof, who
will be boxing as a welter. Lloyd is also hoping to put on
a British Masters eliminator

FORMER ABA champion Steve BendaH (12st), from Coventry
but now living in Bournemouth, overcame a cut left eye to
floor Aberbargoed's Sean Pritchard (12st 1 lb) in the sixth and final
round and make sure of a 59-56 vote from referee Ivor Bassett.
| Gelligaer tough guy Woody Greenway (10st) seemed fortunate
'to scrape a 58-57 decision from referee Roddy Evans, who
had warned Northampton's Alan Bosworth (9st 9 3/4lb) about
incorrect punching and reflected this in his scoring of an exciting, if
technically flawed, six-round show-closer.
