QOBERT NORTON will challenge Bruce Scott for the
llBritish and Commonwealth cruiserweight titles as
ordered by the Board.
The fight must take place before the end of
September.
At light-heavyweight, British champion Neil Simpson
has been paired with Commonwealth king Tony Oakey,
while Welshman Chris Davies, who claims he can't get
fights, is matched with Mark Baker in a final eliminator.
At super-middleweight, British and Commonwealth
champion David Starie must face Leicester's Neil
Linford. The same deadline for Scott-Norton applies to all
the aforementioned bouts.

DERRICK GAINER has split from
manager Roy Jones. Some
reports have it as an amicable
parting but others say the pair had a
row over money and Gainer decided
to walk out, which seems a crazy
move for the WBA featherweight
champion.

RICKY HATTON and Anthony Farnell, the Manchester
duo aiming to star on Frank Warren's July 7 show at
the city's Velodrome, have signed new promotional and
managerial contracts with the promoter.
Hatton defends his WBU light-welterweight crown
against Jason Rowland, while Farnell takes on
Margate's Takaloo for the vacant WBU 11st belt.
The same Velodrome show, which is selling fast
(reportedly 3,000 £25 tickets have already been snapped
up), also features Harry Simon of Namibia challenging
for the vacant WBO

PAUL BOWEN, who retired following his last fight - a debatable points
defeat by Ruben Groenewald - is to have surgery on his damaged hands and
consider another return to the ring.
Bowen has retired before because of persistent trouble with his fists, but misses
the fight game badly.
Though he works in the city of London for a bank and is on a course to become a
TV presenter, Paul wants to box again and deeply regrets the decision he made to
leave Colin McMillan and team up with cousin Nigel Benn.
Benn's comments following Paul's defeat upset him and the pair have not spoken
since.

Ct : hOLIN DUNNE kept busy while waiting
to defend his WBU lightweight crown
'when he knocked out Welshman Barrie
Kelley in three rounds on this TBS promotion
at Goresbrook Leisure Centre.

GARRY DELANEY of west
Ham kept his career alive
by beating Stoke's Darren
Ashton to take the vacant British
Masters cruiserweight title at the
Britannia Hotel.

SPENNYMOOR BOXING ACADEMY'S annual dinner show at the Leisure Centre
Arena on April 27 was another 500-seat sell-out, with 12 cracking bouts.
The host club's boxers made up half the bill, with North East band Ironic
warming up the crowd. Former world super-middleweight title challenger Henry
Wharton was guest of honour.
Spennymoor's GARY REAY won the Best Junior award donated by Director of
Coaching Robbie Ellis, for his points victory over STUART LEONARD of Darlington.
Double national champion Leonard was brave, keeping it tight and skilful, but
Reay deserved his majority verdict.
