DEAN FRANCIS (pictured above) has been told
he must reappear before the Board in
January before resuming his boxing career.
Francis, the talented former British and
European super-middleweight champion whose
licence was automatically suspended when he was
jailed two years ago, had been released early, in
July, for good behaviour.
In fact, the Board were told he was a "model
prisoner" whilst inside.

NASEEM HAMED has been made No. 1 contender by the WBC in spite of losing
his last fight, on points against Mexican MARCO ANTONIO BARRERA in Las
Vegas in April.
But at the present rate, with Hamed having this week cancelled a planned
November 10 match in London, he is going to be dropped for inactivity.
Though the official line is Hamed, a devout Muslim, chose to put off his return
until February because of the terrorist attacks in America and delicate political
climate, Naz's camp also could not reach agreement with HBO over the opponent.
Hamed preferred EBU champion Manuel Calvo to former IBF king Mbulelo Botile.
Hamed's camp have spoken about concern for his safety should he fight again
or even train in America.

SCOTT HARRISON is becoming
an increasingly accomplished
champion judging by his cool
dismissal of GARY THORNHILL in
defence of the British and Commonwealth
featherweight titles at the
MEN Arena.

MANCHESTER welterweight MATTHEW HATTON (10st 5 3/4lbs) punched the
resistance out of West Bromwich southpaw MARCUS PORTMAN (10st 9lbs)
inside three rounds in a scheduled six.
Portman, who has skill, outboxed Hatton for the first half of the opening round,
but Hatton closed the range, worked the body and gradually broke him up.
Portman got the jab going, tried to find a rhythm and settle into using his skills
on the move, but Hatton rode some smart punches and just kept on coming.
When Hatton landed a hard right hand Portman nodded in acknowledgement,
but near the end of the second a left hook seemed to hurt him.
Portman was still on his toes and working the jab, but by the third his fires were
dimming.
