MOST Americans do not regard ADRIAN STONE (left) as a
great threat to WBC welterweight champion Shane Mosley,
but the Bristol man's skills are more appreciated in this
country, where he has been boxing for the past year or so.
Stone is an understandably huge underdog when he challenges
Mosley at Caesars Palace, Las Vegas on July 21, but certainly accomplished
and skilled enough to compete, just as Lloyd Honeyghan
(pictured right) was against the seemingly invincible Don Curry in
Atlantic City in 1986.
FLOYD MAYWEATHER JNR fears for his fighting future. The talented, undefeated
WBC super-featherweight champion said he doesn't think he can fight on
much longer because of serious hand problems.
Mayweather, only 24, damaged them in his last defence last month - a booed
points win over Carlos Hernandez in hometown Grand Rapids.
"I'm no quitter," he told me. "Both my hands were hurt [during the fight]. I think I
showed heart to get through it."
GARRY DELANEY must beat Lincoln's TONY DOWLING
tonight (Friday June 15) to salvage his career.
It was in his last fight in March that Delaney, the former light-heavy hope who
jumped up to heavyweight before realising cruiserweight was best, was
thumped by fellow-Londoner Bruce Scott.
Maybe thumped is a little harsh, because Daleney was having his moments at
York Hall before being forced to retire at the end of the third with a horribly
swollen left eye.
Still, Scott had looked set for victory anyway in retaining his British title and
picking up the vacant Commonwealth belt.
