THE long, hard haul from unknown, unfashionable club
fighter to top title contender is finally over for sleek Chris
Christian.
Chris, self-styled light-middleweight "dark horse" once again
upset all the odds by ripping the Southern Area crown from the
scarred brows of Ely hardman Steve Hopkin.
But it proved a tainted, sadly inconclusive success, with Hopkin,
his left brow split wide open, being pulled out by his corner at the
end of seven savage, uncompromising rounds of the scheduled 12-
rounds British title eliminator.

FORMER Olympian Joey Frost flirted with disaster
as he was knocked down three times by Mancunian
Chris Coady before he showed his usual courage and
stamina to take a deserved points verdict.

JOEY SINGLETON banks on skill and experience to see
him through when he defends his Central Area title against
Lee Hartshorn at the Elephant and Castle Recreation
Centre, Southwark, on Monday.

FEATHERWEIGHT hope Barry McGuigan makes a
quick return to Belfast where he once again faces an imported
opponent on Barney Eastwood's Ulster Hall show
next Tuesday.

A MATTER of a couple of pounds is all that appears to
stand in the way of a clash between middleweight Marvin
Hagler and welter Sugar Ray Leonard, the game's only
undisputed world champions.
