MIKE WEAVER has described his decision to fight James Tillis instead of Gerry
Cooney as a "spiritual decision." It seems that Mike's spiritual counsellor the Rev
Elsie Neal prophesied that Tillis and not Cooney would be his next opponent, and
the WBA champion decided to accept Tillis on that basis.
Mike seems heavily influenced by females as he has Gwyn Reese as his personal
business manager and Alice Wilson handling public relations.
He is said to be unhappy with Don Manuel over his handling of the recent tiff
with the WBA, and may even replace Manuel with a woman.

ONE O F the worst things that can happen to a fighter is to
lose a bout at the wrong time. That was the case with Tony
Braxton, the WBA's no. 9 ranked light-middleweight.
The promising prospect was upset at the Sun Dome in
Tampa, Florida (on the Bobby Czyz v Rick Noggle card) by
an unknown local named Bruce Johnson.

THE leaders of the ABA establishment, not satisfied with
the defeat of Bill Cox in the London election earlier this
month, have now moved in with a bid to silence the former
ABA chief once and for all.
In an interesting example of the double standards in operation
under the present administration Cox is to face disciplinary
proceedings which could result in a sine die suspension over a letter
he wrote to Boxing News last month published in the July 24
edition.

THE NABC's star product, Errol Christie, took part in the recent NABC/ABA Boxing
Course at Crystal Palace. Errol, this year's senior ABA champion at his first attempt,
was an NABC champ for the last three years and has attended the last two
NABC Boxing Scholarships in Holland. He's pictured here with (left to right)
national ABA coach Kevin Hickey, NABC Golden Keystone member Harry Carpenter,
and Nick Alwyn, the NABC Physical Activities Officer.
