ERROL CHRISTIE, the sensation of this year's ABA championships, justified all the superlatives
used about him by beating gallant Cameron Lithgow in last week's Wembley finals, Christie's
only 17, but the star quality is apparent. Detailed report on the finals, and more pics, on pages
20-22.

PRIDE of Derry Charlie Nash once again brings championship
boxing to Ireland when he defends his European lightweight
title against unheralded Giuseppe (Joey) Gibilisco
in Dublin on Sunday.
The open-air fight, at the 40,000 capacity Dalymount
Park, is southpaw Charlie's second-title bout in the capital,
having re-captured his crown with a points win over Francisco
Leon at the Buriington Hotel last December.

IT'S like climbing a ladder," heavyweight Ken Norton was
saying a few weeks ago. "If I slip, then I'll fall down and won't
be able to climb up again. If I miss a step, that'll be the end of
it for me. This is my last shot."
Norton is taking his last shot in Madison Square Garden on
Monday when he meets boxing's new White Hope Gerry Cooney,
over 10 rounds or less.

MICKEY WALKER, who died at Freehold, New Jersey,
aged 79 last Wednesday, won world titles at welter and
middleweight and came close to becoming a champion for
the third time.
During 16 years of stiff battling, he had 146 bouts, losing
only 16. He scored 53 of his victories inside the distance,
proof of his power.

COVENTRY wonder boy Errol Christie, 17, made it ten
national titles and extended his unbeaten run to 41 when, as
predicted, he lifted the ABA light-middleweight crown by
outscoring West Country hardman Cameron Lithgow at
Wembley Arena.
