THE fight was billed as a war beforehand and indeed
it was. It was often fought toe-to-toe, though youth
and superb conditioning eventually prevailed enabling
WBC junior-lightweight champion Cornelius
Boza-Edwards to build up a huge points margin before
halting game Bobby Chacon after 13 rounds of
their fight at the Showboat Casino.
Although the fight lacked the drama of Boza's title
win last March over Bazooka Limon, there was plenty
of action that had the fans on their feet throughout
and cheering both fighters.
LIGHTWEIGHT Ray Cattouse, official challenger for the
European title, takes care of business on the domestic front
with a voluntary defence of his British crown against Ricky
Beaumont at Hull City Hall on Thursday.
Ray, bidding for ownership of a Lonsdale Belt, faces the daunting
task of battling in the other man's backyard. But, having twice been
involved in championship clashes in Glasgow, he's hardly likely to
be intimidated.
HARROW'S Pat McCann shot up the light-heavyweight
ratings with a popular eight rounds points win over Shaun
Chalcraft, Crawley, at Merton Civic Hall - and promptly
challenged British champion Bunny Johnson.
Whether McCann gets to fight Johnson or not, it was a
splendid performance by the British no. 17 against fifth
ranked Chalcraft who was having his first bout since losing
his Southern Area title to Dennis Andries.
IMPROVING featherweight Steve Sims bids to move
nearer a British title fight when he meets West Countryman
Vernon Penprase in front of his own supporters at rhe
Ebbw Vale Bridge Club, Newport, on Tuesday.
It's an evenly balanced fight, in which home town
support may prove a vital factor. The pair have met once
before, sharing the honours over eighyounds.
