THE grand plans have come to a shattering, unexpected end for Ugandan born,
Highgate based Cornelius Boza-Edwards.
On Saturday morning he spoke confidently of a showdown with featherweight
great Salvador Sanchez: less than 10 hours later the fight was reduced to a
seemingly hopeless pipe-dream. Boza, once again, was an outsider looking in.
IT IS almost a year now since Marvin Hagler came „
London and showed us just how marvellous he really is with
a slashing, bloody triumph over Alan Minter at Wembley,
taking Minter's world middleweight crown in three violent
rounds.
Unfortunately, the memory of Marvin's ring work was
marred by an even more vicious display from sections of the
crowd who had gathered to hail a national victory for
Britain.
WHEN Dick Burge died in 1918, the meagre obituaries
made most mention of the facts that he had founded the
celebrated "Ring" at Blackfriars and had served a term of
imprisonment for fraud. Little was said about his exciting
boxing career, other than he had been lightweight champion
of England at one time.
Yet the Cheltenham man was one of the bravest ever to
enter a ring, with an adventurous spirit to match his remarkable
repertoire of punches and fantastic footwork.
