PADDY BYRNE PROMOTIONS celebrate 10 years of
consistently good-value, entertaining small-hall tournaments
with a show at the Elephant & Castle Leisure
Centre on October 14.
But, yet again, they will be running without TV backing
'or interest.

TAMPA — In boxing, you've got your dumb palookas,
your in-the-ring savages, your street gang graduates, and
Muhammad Ali-ish loud-mouths.
And you've got Cornelius Boza-Edwards. He comprises his
own category: none of the above.

IT'S an historic ocpasion as Larry Holmes defends his
International Boxing Federation heavyweight title against
Michael Spinks, the undefeated and undisputed light-heavyweight
champion, at Las Vegas tomorrow (Saturday, September
21).
For if Holmes wins he will tie Rocky Marciano's mark of 49
consecutive heavyweight victories in an unbeaten career.
And if Spinks can pull off an upset he will become the first
light-heavy champ ever to win the heavyweight title.
(Cornish-born Bob Fitzsimmons won the light-heavy title
after having lost the heavyweight championship to Gentleman
Jim Corbett.)

FREDDIE JACKSON, the WBC's No. 1 bantam contender
from Houston, Texas, came off the floor and staged a
wonderful rally in the closing rounds to take a split,
12-round decision over local star Hurley Snead and win the
USB A title.
