HAVING disposed of an elderly and overweight
American, Frank Bruno's next staging post on the road
to the expected crack at the world heavyweight title is
likely to be a 31-year-old Dutchman whose knee
(shattered in a car accident several years ago) is so
painful that he finds roadwork virtually impossible.

FORMER British welterweight champion Kostas Petrou
shook off his defeat by Sylvester Mittee in grand style at
Digbeth Civic Hall.
Any doubts over how Petrou would react to losing his
British crown to Mittee in September were dispelled by his
emphatic two-rounds win over Scottish substitute Dave
Douglas.

THE fight was billed by promoter Bob Arum as "The Tossup"
but it turned out to be a mis-match as Donald Curry knocked out
Milton McCrory in under five minutes of fighting to become
undisputed welterweight champion of the world;
The end came for McCrory as he was counted out by referee Mills Lane
after one minute 53 seconds of round two in the scheduled 12-rounder.
He had been knocked down earlier by a left hook but got unsteadily to his
feet. But Curry moved right in to land a concussive right to the chin and
McCrory went down on his back, his elongated body suddenly limp, his eyes
vacant. Everyone knew it was just a formality for referee Lane to complete
the count.

EXCITEMENT looks assured when England meet Ireland
at the Coventry Leisure Centre on Monday (December 16).
Possibly the standout is the clash at bantamweight
between A B A featherweight runner-up John Davison and
Derry's Roy Nash, the perfect puncher versus boxer
confrontation.
