NEW European welterweight champion Lloyd Honeyghan
cashes in on his current hot form when he meets Mauricio
Bravo of Venezuela in the re-arranged main event on
Mike Barrett and Mickey Duffs show at the Albert Hall
on Tuesday.
The match replaces the advertised top-liner, Jimmy
Cable's British light-middleweight title defence against
Prince Rodney, which had been the subject of a dispute
between Barrett/Duff and rival promoter
Frank Warren.
I WAS unaware that the British boxing world discriminated
against women until I read that manager Eddie
Thomas vetoed American Carol Polis as a judge for the
bout between his protege, Colin Jones, and WBA welter
champ Don Curry. It would have been the first time a
female judge ever worked a pro bout in England.
THE promoting club's W. Harvey gave one of his best
performances to clearly outpoint Epsom & Ewell's D.
Smith on the Rosehill tournament at St. Helier Arms,
Carshalton, when club chairman John Overy stepped in to
act as MC and did a good job.
Boxing coolly, with combinations to head and body,
Harvey was on top most of the time and had Smith battling
bravely to keep in the fight.
