THE treatment of trainers can often be harsh.
For instance, if the boxer wins, the trainer is
deemed good at his job. But if the boxer fails,
the trainer is often first to be blamed and
sometimes gets the boot.
Trainers can't do the fighting for their boxers
- you might disagree watching Enzo Calzaghe
in the corner - but they can make a crucial
difference.

PROMOTER Bob A r um isn't ruling
out the possibility of Manny
Pacquiao boxing Oscar De La Hoya.
If anything, he is encouraging it.
The idea of a former flyweight and
now super-feathe boxing someone
who has competed as high as middle
- and last time out was a light-middle
- sounds preposterous not to
mention dangerous.

KEITH HOLMES, former WBC
middleweight champion, is planning
to sue the WBA over an eliminator at
light-heavy that went only eight rounds.
Holmes lost narrowly but unanimously
to Panamanian Tito Mendoza in
Mendoza's home country in August.
The fight is listed on BoxRec as being
for the WBA Fedalatin belt and Holmes
claims he signed a contract stating it
was an official 12-round eliminator.
That convinced Holmes to fight on
away territory against a man who was
on a four-fight stoppage streak.

SCOn HARRISON, former WBO
featherweight champion, was fined
£500 after admitting charges of
drugs possession and threatening
a road worker.
Harrison, bidding to come back
after alcohol and legal problems,
was caught with 69 diazepam tablets
in Glasgow on January 31. Scott (30)
also pleaded guilty to threatening to
punch a road worker on July 13 last
year. Harrison was fined £350 for
committing a breach of the peace
and £150 for the drugs charge.
