TWENTY years ago t h e y were
holding c o u r t in t h e biggest
hotels in t h e world.
Now they are just in court.
Mike Tyson's trainer Kevin Rooney
was last week let off with a suspended
sentence (five years) and a fine for
drink-driving. The judge showed
leniency because Rooney was in
full-time alcohol abuse therapy.
It is well known that the trainer
has an addictive personality.

FORMER brilliant amateur Nick
McDonald is going back to the
amateurs after just one pro fight.
The fight in question was a cuts loss
to a Ukrainian called Nikita Lukin last
October in London.
McDonald was then cut several
times in sparring.
He was told by a plastic surgeon
who tended to those cuts that the only
way he could fight on was if he had the
protection of a headguard.
"You have tender skin, Nick."
So McDonald is back training'at his
old amateur club Vauxhall Motors in
Ellesmere Port.

GERMAN heavy hope FRANCESCO
PIANETA has talent, but anyone
who saw him struggle against
Italian journeyman PAOLO FERRARA
last time out could tell there were
problems. Pianeta looked lucky to
get the decision after eight rounds.
For his 11th fight tomorrow
(June 23), in Zwickau against South
African MIYAN SOLOMONS, Pianeta
has finally heeded the advice of
matchmaker Hagen Doering and
trained at Sauerland headquarters
in Berlin.

TROY JAMES isn't daft. As a teenager
he joined The Rhapsody Academy in
Coventry and was one of only two
male students at the dance school.
"I used to really look forward to
going to my classes!" laughed the
23-year-old f r om Coventry.
James earned the chance to show
off his break-dancing and streetdancing
skills at Blackpool Opera
House before discovering he was
better suited t o destroying.
