BRITISH middleweight champion Herold 'Bomber' Graham, who is still hopeful of
earning another world title shot - perhaps for the WBC's version of the crown - kept
himself firmly on course with an emphatic win over Ismael Negron at the Leisure Centre.
The Puerto Rican visitor, based at East Orange, New Jersey, may have gone eleven
rounds with Reggie Johnson for the USBA middleweight title earlier in the year, but he did
not last three rounds against the man from Sheffield, on this National Promotions bill.

DON KING'S bad year continued as it was announced that
he had agreed to pay $1.4 million in an out of court
settlement of a 1982 lawsuit brought by heavyweight Tony
Perea and promoter Tom Prendergast.
Apparently back in 1981 King withdrew Trevor Berbick
from a match with Perea on Prendergast's show and then
did everything he could to squeeze them both out of
boxing.

The Boxing Writers Association of America
named PERNELL WHITAKER as Fighter of the Year
and GEORGE BENTON as Trainer of the Year.
EMANUEL STEWARD was voted Manager of the
Year and MICHAEL CARBAJAL Prospect of the
Year.

SEAN OXLEY, the Fitzroy Lodge prospect who

crown at the first National Police Novice
