STREATHAM cruiserweight Lou Gent can't aflord any
slip-ups on Tuesday (February 20) when he defends his
Southern Area cruiserweight title against southpaw Gypsy
Carman at the Latchmere Leisure Centre.
A defeat would surely cancel his proposed British title
chance against Johnny Nelson at Sheffield on March 28.

JOHN DAVISON is fighting a race against time as he battles
to make a late bid to reach the top.
The Newcastle southpaw is the surprise challenger for
the WBC International featherweight title next month
against unbeaten Srikoon Narachawat at Hartlepool.
It's the first ever International title fight at the North East
coastal town and goes ahead on March 20.

FORMER ABA welterweight finalist TERRY MORRILL goes for
his first professional title when he challenges Central Area
light-middleweight champion MARK HOLDEN on Frank
Maloney's promotion at Hull City Hall on Thursday (February
22)

THOMAS HEARNS' younger brother Henry faces a prison
sentence of between 27 and 52 years after being found
guilty of murder by a court in Pontiac, Michigan.
Henry (23) was arrested after the shooting of 19-yearold
Nancy Barile in his brother's house two days before
Thomas Hearns' 12 round draw with Sugar Ray Leonard
last June.

MAYBE there comes a time when even ghosts have nothing
else to say.
As Mike Tyson sat miserably on his stool at the end of
the fifth round of his fall from grace against Buster
Douglas, he didn't even bother looking up.
His cornermen Aaron Snowell and Jay Bright talked to
him, wiped him down and applied the ice bag to the

NEARLY TWO years ago I wrote about former Bethnal Green heavyweight Len Bennett

for the North east Divs; was too busy for Loblack who
threw only single shots

THE title hopes of last year's ABA welter runner-up
John Jones (Sefton) ended early this season when he
was beaten at the first qualifying stage, the semi-finals
of the West Lanes & Cheshire championships at
Everton Park Sports Centre.

ENGLAND international Lee Woolcock hardly needed to
break sweat to retain his Eastern Counties middleweight
title at the Leisure Centre.
Facing Yarmouth's Darren Gamble - a natural welterweight
who has had weight problems since recovering from a knee injury
just a couple of months ago - Woolcock needed only 21 seconds
to deliver a perfect right hook to end the contest. Gamble was sent
flying between the two bottom ropes and showed no inclination to
beat the count.
