Boxing News Magazine 2011 Memorabilia

WHEN some guys retire they don't really
know what to do with their life and there
are different avenues that open up. Oscar
De La Hoya admitted to a problem recently
and it is very important to pick the right
avenues and still realise that you are a role
model, even after retirement.
People are going to look back and see
what you've done and also see where
you're at, so it's important to keep that
flow through life and not fall by the
wayside.

Catman' pulled off a memorable victory in the
hostile confines of the Ballsporthalle in Frankfurt,
claiming the WBC super-middleweight crown in
the process. As it was close, Catley knew that a
stoppage was necessary. He duly achieved his aim
after slamming into a tottering Beyer in the 12th,
forcing the referee to call a halt.

CONGRATULATIONS to the unyielding
Carl Froch on reaching the final of the
Super Six Tournament - a true 'Road
Warrior' if there ever was one and a
massive hero to hometown Nottingham.
Carl has fought just once on home
soil since the Super Six began whereas
Andre Ward has contested all his fights in
America.

IT was reassuring when meeting Ricky
Hatton at his gym in Hyde last week that
the "Hitman" appeared happy in apparent
retirement. The Manchester legend was
cheered by former victim Kostya Tszyu's
recent induction into the International
Boxing Hall of Fame and the way this
honour reflects upon him. Hatton - the
Australian-Russian's final opponent -
has been further elevated in the public
estimation as a result of Tszyu's Canastota
calling. Hatton was full of praise for his
old rival, rubbishing any doubts regarding
Kostya's merits.

FOLLOWING his courageous loss to
Gennady Colovkin in a bid for a
WBA middleweight belt (see page
20), it was reported that Kassim
Ouma had been hospitalised in
Panama with suspected bleeding on
the brain.
