MERCEDES REVS UP FOR TITLE CHALLENGE

Anderson's ready to make the big breakthrough

TURPIN CLUB SHUTS

DURING his twenty magnificent years in the ring, Ted
(Kid) Lewis, that dashing, smashing scrapper from London's
East End, fought innumerable ude bouts at different
weights and in varied categories, including no less than ten
for British championships.
Yet only thrice did he batde with a Lonsdale Belt at stake.
What's more he never won a trophy outright.
The fact was the Kid came at a breaking point in the
history of the National Sporting Club, which had controlled
the Championships and dispensed the Belts for so many
years.

TOP brass of the ABA will mix with professionals at the pro
stronghold Thomas A'Becket gymnasium pub, Old Kent
Road, on Thursday, September 9 for a gala night to help
England's Commonwealth Games team.
