PROMOTER Don King announced this week
that WBC heavyweight champion Larry
Holmes will defend his title against Muhammad
Ali, on the comeback road at 38, in a
specially-built 20,000 seater arena at Caesars
Palace, Las Vegas on October 2.

WHEN the American team travelled to the Olympic Games in 1976, they
confidently expected to gain at least three gold medals. Howard Davis Jnr had
been looking unbeatable and their joint team captains Ray Leonard and
Clinton Jackson were rated as the best in the world.
When the Games were over and the dust had settled, America had in fact
exceeded their own expectations by winning five gold medals, one silver and
one bronze. Davis and Leonard drew rave notices and faced a rich future.

MEMBERS of the North-West London Division did not
believe it when their evergreen secretary Fred Perry said
he was resigning. He had been saying that for years —
and year after year they had persuaded him to change
his mind.
