Frankham Bows Out In Style

McManus Wears Down Gleed

ABA light-heavy champion Johnny Frankham of Reading became the first of England's European
Championship team to " go absent" when he confirmed that his clear points win over old-foe
Pat Long (Edgewick) in the four-nation match at Sophia Gardens, Cardiff last Thursday week, was
to be his last amateur battle. Frankham was one of four England winners but with the five Scots all
losing, the Irish-Welsh combine finished 6-4 victors over their English-Scottish adversaries in a match
that marked the Prince of Wales Investiture.

Nine heavyweight bouts in one evening at the World
Sporting Club next Monday. The bill will be topped by
Carl Gizzi v American giant Jack O'Halloran (pictured
opposite with Terry Downes) and the rest of the programme
will be devoted to a £1,000 heavyweight competition.
