The big heavyweight clash is ON, but the supermiddleweight
showdown is OFF - that's the situation
following the events of the last week.

Lennox Lewis' WBC heavyweight Final Elminator
against Donovan "Razor" Ruddock of Canada has
been signed and sealed for Earls Court, London, on
October 31, giving the former Olympic champion home
advantage for his big test.

However, the announcement last week of a
September 26 date for the return between WBO
super-middleweight king Chris Eubank and arch-rival
Nigel Benn appears to have been premature. Benn is
looking to challenge Italian Mauro Galvano for the WBC
12sl crown that month. For both stories see back page.

GARY MASON is in his usual exuberant mood, having just finished
recording satelite TV's boxing show Ringside for Sky Sports with
co-presenter Gary Norman. With the composure of a seasoned
broadcaster, Mason's quipped and commented through the two
hours recording, sometimes upstaging Norman with his sharp wit.
The adrenalin is still pumping as Mason swaps banter with
passing colleagues in Sky's staff restaurant in Isleworth, 15 miles
west of central London.

HOLIDAYMAKERS in the seaside town of Scarborough taking an
early morning stroll along the promenade might be a little curious
about a hooded, track-suited figure running along the beach. It is
no mystery - it is Paul Ingle, Scarborough's popular young boxer
and Olympic hopeful doing his roadwork.
The 20-year-old builder's labourer, out of work at the moment
so that he concentrates on preparing for Barcelona, is reckoned by
some to be one of our best hopes for a medal.
