THE harsh realities of how fierce competition can be
at world level were brought home to Britain's Andy
Till at the Picketts Lock Leisure Centre by Frenchman
Laurent Boudouani, who cut, floored and overpowered
the West Londoner in four rounds to retain
his European title for the second time.

THE comeback of Hackney's K i r k l a n d Laing suffered
a bitter blow when Kevin Lueshlug from Beckenham
stopped him on a cut right eye in the fifth of
a scheduled 10 rounder for the vacant Southern
Area light-middleweight title.
Referee Dave Parris called a halt after56 seconds
of the round following an inspection in Laing's corner,
and the intervention left Laing disconsolate.
He at first refused to acknowledge Lueshing's offer
of a glove, before thinking better of it and crossing
the ring to congratulate the winner.

LLOYD HONEYGHAN'S long and honourable career
as a top level fighter surely came to an end at the old
and cavernous Convention Center when he was
worn down and stopped in 10 rounds by American
hero Vinny Pazienza.
The victory was conclusive enough with Honeyghan
going down in round three and in round nine
before the confused and chaotic ending after 56 seconds
of the 10th.

"ONLY the strong survive" blared the publicity slogan,
and it certainly took unusual fortitude to make
it to 10 to one In the morning to watch former world
heavyweight champion Evander Holyfield complete
an unimpressive if unanimous 12 rounds points
decision over previous victim Alex Stewart at the
Convention Center

CAMBERWELL cruiserweight Derek Angol remained
In Sant' Anna hospital after a worrying 11th round
knockout defeat to former WBC champion Masslmillano
Duran for the vacant European title.
Angol, making his second attempt at the title, was
admitted for cranial-cerebral trauma but was awake
and conscious the day after the fight after recovering
in the neurosurgery unit.

THE OCEAN ROOM was crammed to capacity for
Yarmouth Kingfisher's final dinner show of the
season. In the feature contest Dereham's 19-yearold
light-heavyweight prospect SHANE WHITTLE
gave one of his better performances to stop the
promoting club's GARY SMITH in the second
round.

TWENTY-year-old ANTONY LOVELACE (Boston,
pictured above) won his "rubber" bout against
NABC finalist RICHARD BECK (Stalham & Walsham)
after a splendid middleweight set-to at the
Bowls and Squash Club in North Walsham.
Lovelace came out with all guns blazing and scored
with some powerful body shots. But he was guilty of holding
and hitting and was publicly warned for this offence
In the second round.
