THE Boxing Board have approved a voluntary defence of the
British light-welterweight title by Joey Singleton against Alan
Salter. The fight will be promoted by Mickey Duff at York Hall on
September 16.
Singleton won a very debatable decision over Salter in a non-title
bout at the Albert Hall on June 3.
The winner must be prepared to waive the six months' grace. The
Board almost certainly have ex-champ Pat McCormack in mind as
next challenger.
McCormack lost the title to Singleton at Liverpool last
November, a decision strongly disputed by McCormack's camp.
McCormack's manager, Paddy Byrne, has been angling for a return
ever since.
