FREDDIE ROACH could not have
been more pleased with his newest
charge, Miguel Cotto, who stopped
Delvin Rodriguez in some style at
the weekend (see pages 25-27).
"He fought a terrific fight, we
had a great camp and he fought
exactly how he was supposed to."
Cotto may spar his former
conqueror and new gym-mate
Manny Pacquiao for future fights
but Roach explained, "They're good
friends now, so I'm not sure how
hard they'll go,"

SERGIO MARTINEZ may only have two
fights left in his superb career and his
final brace of opponents could well be
Miguel Cotto and Cennady Golbvkin,
according to the WBC middleweight
champion's advisor Sampson Lewl<owicz.
Martinez has been sidelined with several
injuries since his narrow victory over
Martin Murray six months ago, the most
serious of which, to his l<nee, will keep
him out until at least April 2014. Next
year could be his final one in the ring and,
Lewkowicz, explains, the Argentine would
like to end his career on a high but will not
be taking a match at light-middleweight,

JAMES OECALE
is scheduled to
return to action on
November 16 at
Bluewater, Kent
under his promoter,
Mick Hennessy. An
opponent is yet to
be confirmed for the
WBC Silver supermiddleweight
titlist.

THE IRISH TEAM lost one of their
medal favourites, European gold
and Olympic silver medallist John
Joe Nevin, who looks set to turn
pro. No one is able to fill those big
boots as Ireland could not enter
another sSkgs boxer ahead of the
deadline. But the team is littered
virith stars. Paddy Barnes has
European and Olympic medals at
4gkgs; he's desperately seeking
World honours to complete his
collection. 52kgs Michael Conlan
is an Olympic bronze medallist and
he will be Selby's chief cause for
concern in the division.
