AMIR KHAN was in Las Vegas to watch
Floyd Mayweather's win over Saul
Alvarez, and to tie up the loose ends
for his December 7 clash with Devon
Alexander at the Barclays Center in
Brooklyn, New York. Yet again. Khan's
name is being mentioned as a potential
foe for Mayweather.
"Definitely," Khan said, when asked if
Mayweather is on his agenda. "I've been
Action Images / Paul Cunie
invited by Golden Boy because they said
Mayweather always talks about fighting
me and fighting in England and he wants
to fight someone in Britain because he
knows how many fans he has in Britain.
I believe that if this Alexander fight
happens, and I'm not looking too far
ahead because I've made that mistake
before, this fight will put me into the
great fights."

ON THE same night as the man
who crushed his world title dream
returns to the ring after a year
out. Limerick southpaw Andy Lee
attempts to put himself in line for a
second crack at global glory. Over in
Carson, California on September 28,
Julio Cesar Chavez comes back
at 168lbs from a drug suspension
- his second - to meet Brian Vera,
the tough Texan who Lee split a
brace of battles with. Meanwhile,
across the Atlantic in Manchester,
Lee tackles Italian Domenico
Spada in an eliminator for the WBC
Middleweight title he challenged
Chavez for in June 2012.

DARREN BARKER, the new IBF
middleweight champion, is an appealing
target for many boxers, not least
Felix Sturm. The two parties are in
negotiations to see if a fight can be made
Sturm lost a split decision in his German
base to Daniel Geale, who in
turn was dethroned by Barnet's
Barker.
"I would definitely like to
fight Darren Barker next, no
doubt about it. He had a great
performance against Daniel
Ceale and is now the IBF world
champion," Felix told Boxing
News.
It's been a rocky road
for Sturm, who survived
contentious decisions against
Matthew Macklin and Martin Murray
for his WBA title before finally succumbing
to Geale.

THE World Junior championships
concluded in Kiev in the Ukraine on
September 15. Willie Donoghue
claimed a gold medal for Ireland
after defeating the USA's Daniel
Gonzales in the 48kgs final. Kieran
Molloy and Sean Conroy at GOkgs
and 75kgs respectively won bronze
for Ireland.
England's hopes made it no
further than the quarter-finals and
so missed out on any silverware.
The United States saw a World
champion crowned in Sakur
Stevenson at 52kgs and finished
above Ireland in the medal table.
