s o what next for Ricky Hatton's
conqueror MANNY PACQUIAO?
Most fans would like to see the
Filipino great take on FLOYD
MAYWEATHER JNR - assuming the
"Pretty Boy" sees off JUAN
MANUEL MARQUEZ - to settle the
argument over who is pound-forpound
the best fighter in the world.
However, Pacquiao's trainer
Freddie Roach favours a match with
WBA welterweight champion SHANE
MOSLEY.
"As a fan, it's the fight I'd most
want to see," Roach told the LA
Times. The sticking point appears
to be the weight - Roach has said
the heaviest he will allow Manny to
weight for the bout is lOst 3lbs,
while Mosley is reportedly not
interested in dropping down from
the lOst 7lbs welterweight limit.
Mosiey has not fought below lOst
6ibs for over 10 years.
Meanwhile promoter Bob Arum
says Pacquiao could end up facing
WBO welter boss MIGUEL COTTO in
an explosive showdown, should the
Puerto Rican defeat Joshua Clottey
on June 13.
"We are not going to wait for
Mayweather," Arum told Boxing
Scene. "It is more feasible for
Cotto to face Pacquiao in
November or December and the
winner to fight Mayweather next
year."
Mayweather, whose clash with
Marquez will be the subject of the
latest HBO 2 4 / 7 programme, took
part in a press conference
yesterday (full report next week) in
London and takes part in a public
workout this afternoon (Friday May
22) in the capital.

UMON BREWSTER, former WBO
heavyweight champ, reckons Rugby
League player-turned boxer JOHN
HOPOATE has a chance of knocking
out steel-chinned OLIVER McCAU
in Las Vegas (The Orleans Hotel)
tonight (Friday IMay 22).
Hopoate, says Brewster, is "as
strong as a bull." He has been
sparring Brewster (who fights in
Helsinki on May 30) and UONEL
BUTLER at the Los Angeles gym of
Justin Fortune.
Butler agreed that Hopoate is a
man with potential. "He's strong
and aggressive and keeps going
forwards," he said.
Though 44, former WBC champ
McCall has been stopped only once
- by Lennox Lewis - though never
off his feet. He is having his first
fight since October 2007 and his
son, also a heavyweight, fights on
the same card. Hopoate, a 34-yearold
from Australia, is 11-2. All his
wins have come inside the limit.

THE INTRIGUING contest between
exciting British welterweight champion
Kell Brook and slick Commonwealth
king John O'Donnell has been sent
out for purse bids at the latest Board
meeting.
An eliminator at lightweight sees
Celtic champion Gary Buckland
ordered to face in-form Henry Castle.
In English title news, super-middle
champion Paul David must face
Southern Area title-holder Tony
Salam, while super-bantamweight
boss Mark Moran has been ordered to
meet Josh Wale.
All bids are asked for by June 16
with all contests to take place by the
end of October.

WALCOT ABC hosts its final event of
the season at the Premier Club,
Stratton, Swindon tonight (Friday May
22, start 8pm).
The central Swindon outfit have
enjoyed another successful season with
two national schoolboy champions in
Connor Wells and Ryan Martin as well
as many regional champions.
An opponent for ABA lightweight
semi-finalist Danny Bharj is yet to be
confirmed, but no fewer than 20 bouts
are matched.
