AT one stage, Antonio Tarver
fighting Jeff Lacy in their native
Florida had the potential to be a
massive fight.
Now, if they meet in October, as
is being mooted, it would be for the
winner to salvage his career and the
loser to contemplate his future.
Both former world champs have
suffered devastating recent losses -
Tarver to Bernard Hopkins at lightheavy
and Lacy (left) against Joe
Calzaghe at super-middle.

A SUPER-MIDDLE showdown between
Markus Beyer (WBC) and Mikkel
Kessler (WBA) has moved a step closer.
Beyer, 35, is apparently prepared to
take on Kessler in Copenhagen on
October 14, but first the respective
promoters have to settle the champions'
mandatory obligations.
Sauerland Events and Mogens Palle
are apparently confident they can agree
step-aside terms with mandatory men
Librado Andrade (WBC) and Anthony
Mundine (WBA)

THERE has been another ring death
in Indonesia, where for some
reason they have an alarming
record of this nature.
The latest occurred last
Saturday in Manado, where young
bantam FADLY KASIM, having his
second fight, was knocked out in
the sixth and last by Jibril Soamole.
Apparently Kasim took a beating
in the last. One report said the
fighter's trainer wanted Kasim to
retire as early as the third.
Kasim was taken to hospital but
died there, becoming the 11th
fighter to lose his life in an
Indonesian ring since 2000 and
25th in the country's history.
