GARRY DELANEY was last week
sentenced to life for the murder of
a 23-year-old he punched while
working as a doorman in Essex.
The 36-year-old former British
and Commonwealth heavyweight
title challenger will serve a minimum
of 11 years.
Also making the wrong news was
Zab Judah, who was arrested in New
York last Saturday after playing in a
celebrity basketball game at Madison
Square Garden.
It was unclear as to the reason for
his arrest, but Judah was taken to
Queens Family Court having spent
a night in jail. A woman named
Natashia Wright had alerted the
police to an outstanding warrant
relating to a financial dispute.
Meanwhile Danny Romero,
Albuquerque's 32-year-old former
'world' fly and super-flyweight
champion, has started a 30-day
sentence for drink-driving.

LEON DOBBS, the former Scunthorpe
pro who couldn't win a fight (0-5), finally
has something to be proud of
On July 25 at the Fallen Heroes gym
in his hometown, Dobbs broke the
world record for consecutive rounds
sparred. He completed 121 threeminute
rounds (one-minute break in
between each session), starting at 9am
and finishing by 5.30pm.
Lincoln cruiser Lee Swaby previously
held the record with 120.
Dobbs, 29, said he did it for his three
children. "My pro record doesn't say
what I could have done. I know I
could have won an Area title."
So Dobbs, who had his last fight
nearly six years ago, is planning a
comeback, assuming he can regain
his licence. And he'd have to give
up running the Fallen Heroes club,
because amateurs and pros don't mix.

ENGLAND came out on top in the Four
Nations Schoolboys at Willow's High
School in Cardiff on April 28-29.
They won six of the 14 golds, with
Wales and Ireland tying for second on
four golds apiece. Scodand, with one
silver, took the wooden spoon.
With the success of Wales'
Commonwealth Games boxers in
mind (four medals from eight men),
and under the guidance of national
coach Tony Williams, the Welsh
schoolboys rose to the occasion.
This was their best-ever result in this
Schools Four Nations.
Mano Lee (Bonymaen, Swansea)
took the 38 kgs title with a wide points
win over England's Robert Walker.
Walker took the fight to Lee in the
opener but had no answer to the Welsh
champion's variety of punch. Mano
racked up the points: 5-2 after the first,
15-2 in the second and 23-3 in the third.
Closest bout was for the 50 kgs title
between Wales' Leon Goodman (St
Joseph's East) and Scott Wilson of
England.
