JERMAIN TAYLOR, who looks as solid a young
middleweight title prospect as anyone in the world,
aims for win No. 19 on Lou DiBella's January 9
promotion at the Mohegan Sun Casino, Uncasville.
Sydney Olympian (bronze medal) Taylor,
impressive on the Roy Jones-Antonio Tarver undercard
in Las Vegas last month when he stopped
Rogelio Martinez in seven, is matched with Alex
Rios over 10 rounds.
A solid 12-rounder on the bill features Nate
Campbell against Daniel Attah in an IBF title
eliminator. Campbell's sole defeat is by Joel
Casamayor, whereas Attah has just two losses, one
on points to Brazilian hitter Acelino Freitas.

SMOKIN' Joe Frazier failed in his long-running
battle through the courts to regain over 140 acres
of land in the Northampton Township in
Pennsylvania which he claimed he'd once paid
$834,000 for in 1979.
A court ruled the former world heavy champ had
insufficient evidence to support his claim.
A former champion who did have success in
court was Sugar Ray Leonard, who was awarded
$443,315 after a Los Angeles judge ruled South
Carolina promoter Bobby Mitchell and Mitchell
Promotions had lied and misled Leonard's
company as well as breached their contract.
Leonard, now a promoter, took legal action
following the collapse of a proposed show in June
2002 in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

CARL FROCH picked up the first
belt of his pro career when
he halted game Hattersley
opponent ALAN PAGE in the
seventh for the inaugural
English super-middleweight title at the
Storm Arena.
Former two-time ABA champ and World
bronze medallist Froch, 26, won awards galore
as an amateur and along with his team at
Hennessy Sports is hoping this will be the first
of many as a pro.
