DUNNE NOT DUSTED
We ate ringside at Yoik Hall as WBU

super-bantam champ
mtlchael Brodie has a real struggle

THE British Masters Championship, already in progress, is a fine
idea - in theory - though the structure of the competition has left
me a little bemused.
For instance, in half of the 10 weight divisions there is an odd number
of contests which makes an elimination system almost impossible.
The organisers have said that preliminary and quarter-final bouts
will be over six-threes, the semi-finals over eight-threes and the final a
10-rounder.

JOSHUA CLOTTEY, considered to be the more talented
of the Ghanaian brothers, took apart Derby
puncher DENNIS BERRY, who was mercifully retired on
his stool by trainer and former European heavyweight
title challenger Clifton Mitchell at the end of the third in
a scheduled six-threes show-closer.

IRISH southpaw Brian Magee (22)
atoned for his quarter-finals defeat in
this event two years ago when he
boxed his way to a superb silver
medal at middleweight, losing only to
World champion Zsolt Erdei of Hungary
in the final.
