CANADA'S Shawn O'Sullivan will never forget
his showdown in the light-middle quarter-finals
with Rod Douglas (Britain).
O'Sullivan recovered from a bad first round
(by his standards) to grab a 5-0 vote, although the
verdict had a mixed reception. It was a gripping
contest throughout, with Douglas making a
dream start in the first, rifling in range-finding
left jabs.

MARK BRELAND shook off a shaky start to live up to his reputation
as a wonderful welterweight, Canadian golden boys Willie Dewitt and
Shawn O'Sullivan suffered upset losses and the USA ended up with
nine of the 12 gold medals in an action packed Olympic finals at the
memorial sports arena.

JOHNNY WILLIAMS always surprised me!
When I first knew him he was a middleweight
and showed no signs of developing into a
heavy: he was always billed as from Rugby,
whereas he was Welsh by birth; and he never
appeared to be a big puncher, yet stopped 39
of his 77 opponents, 15 by clean-cut knockouts.

TERRY MARSH challenges for Clinton McKenzie's
British light-welterweight title in the first
major show of the new season at the Leisure
Centre. Shoreditch, on September 19.
The show is promoted by Marsh's manager,
Frank Warren, and the new venue marks a shift
in Warren's base from the Bloomsbury Crest
Hotel to East London.
