DANGEROUS veteran Joey Mack, Birmingham, (l0st
91bs) turned the British welterweight rankings upside down
when he floored and outpointed tide contender Colin Derrick
of Bethnal Green, in the eight threes main event at the
York Hall.

HEROL GRAHAM gets the chance to annex the European title to the British and
Commonwealth crowns he already holds when he meets veteran Clemente
Tshinza of Zaire and Luxembourg for the vacant EBU championship at Sheffield
City Hall on Monday.
The fights goes on over the 12-rounds distance.
Tshinza, 35, was hot on his day when he was at his peak but his performances
have become increasingly erratic in recent years, with the nadir of his career being
the pitiful one round count out against Charlie Weir in Johannesburg last year.

AFTER the controversy comes the rematch, as Michael
Dokes defends his World Boxing Association heavyweight
title against ex-champ Mike Weaver at Las Vegas tonight
(Friday).
The fight in which Dokes won the tide last December,
also in Las Vegas, goes down as one of the most debated and
disputed heavyweight endings of all time, certainly since
Sonny Liston stayed down against Muhammad Ah in 1965.
Referee Joey Curtis, a former pro lightweight, was
roundly condemned for diving in to stop the fight after just
63 seconds with Weaver pinned in a corner and Dokes
throwing punches.

HERO of the European Police Championships staged by
the Metropolitan Police at the Royal Albert Hall was Irish
champion Brian Byrne, of Garda Siochana, Dublin, who
carried off the light-middleweight tide for the fourth successive
year.
Byrne outpointed Italian Mario Nathla in one of the best
finals, with both men enjoying the advantages and both
taking good shots. Ireland gained only one title, but their
solitary success earned terrific applause and Irish officials
were delighted.
