I AM writing about the proposed Marsh-Camacho fight.
First, I must say that I have enormous respect for our great
champion. Since winning the title he has conducted himself
perfectly in and out of the ring. His attitude and dedication
are ideal examples for future title holders.

PERSISTENCE and patience have paid off for Jose Luis
Ramirez, the veteran Mexican southpaw who finished
strongly to outpoint Terrence Alii at St Tropez to regain the
World Boxing Council lightweight title.

EDWIN ROSARIO won an all-Puerto Rican fight described
as a "blood feud" as he knocked out Juan Nazario in
the eighth of their scheduled 15-rounder at the University
of Illinois Pavilion to retain his World Boxing Association
lightweight title.
And now Rosario goes on to defend the title against Julio
Cesar Chavez, Mexico's World Boxing Council
super-featherweight champion, at the Las Vegas Hilton on
November 28 in a fight to be televised by Home Box Office
in America.

IT IS always distressing to hear about the graves of famous
boxers that have fallen in disrepair, and have not been kept
up. A couple of years ago an impressive headstone was
installed on the grave of the late Benny Lynch, but for some
time before that Tommy Edmond, Benny's greatest fan,
made the regular trip from Edinburgh to Glasgow just to
keep the grave neat and tidy, and to bring fresh flowers.
Now Harry Legge tells me that the Freddie Mills
Memorial Tablet in Bournemouth Pleasure Gardens has
been vandalised. In addition, four oak seat benches,
donated by fans and family, have disappeared.

A crowded van of All Stars talent drove north to Luton
on October 24,1986 and it was there that Michael wore the
red vest for the first time, scoring a first round win.
Eight months later, Michael's season came to an end after
18 bouts which saw him lift the London Novices title, the
ABA title, and then win a bronze in the Acropolis Cup.
The arrival of Michael on the London and national scene
was rapid but not totally unexpected; many people were
talking about the stone-faced interior decorator before
Christmas.
