WHAT a year it's been. Stunning upsets, sensational
punching, thrills, spills and chills. And turning our
attention to picking the top 10 best overseas fights of the
year for 1986 has been easy with so much from which to
choose. The only problem has been deciding in which order
the fights should be placed.
But it seemed clear that for the second year running,
middleweight champ Marvelous Marvin Hagler was involved
in the No. 1 fight.
In 1985 it was his three-round blasting match with
Thomas Hearns. In the year just past it was his 11th round
knockout over a tough John Mugabi.

THE LEAD sports item on Radio South Africa's 8 am
news broadcast was the announcement that Britain's
undisputed world welterweight champion, Lloyd Honeyghan,
had relinquished the WBA version of his crown.
The explanation for this move, the newsreader told
listeners, was that Honeyghan wanted to avoid, at all costs,
a meeting with the WBA's No 1 contender . South Africa's
Harold Volbrecht.

A LIVERPOOL select team defeated their London ABA
counterparts by five bouts to three in a highly entertaining
match at the plush Hotel L'Horizon, Jersey.
London raced off to a dream start when featherweight
Tony Davis registered an emphatic countout victory over
Paul Donnelly after just 30 seconds of the first round via a
cracking left hook.
