GARY LOGAN, outpointed last month in
a small-hall classic against H u s s a in
O s m a n at t h e Elephant and Castle
Leisure Centre, is itching for a rematch.
After failing to secure an immediate return,
promoter Eugene Maloney had intended to match
Logan with Delroy Leslie on his December 16 show.
A second serving against Osman may be in the
offing, but not next month as Osman, a Muslim,
won't be able to box because of Ramadan.

JAWAID KHALIQ, the IBO welterweight champion, scored a marking-time
third-round stoppage win on the Carr-Kondwani bill, though his opponent,
Baltimore's LUTHER SMITH, was furious with referee Victor Loughlin's
intervention at the 1-30 mark. It was scheduled for eight.
Smith is reportedly managed by Sugar Ray Leonard (who didn't make the
journey) and had sparred with Oscar De La Hoya and Fernando Vargas, but those
credentials flattered to deceive.
The taller Khaliq, who next defends in February, kept flicking out his jab in the
first to measure his foe, keeping Smith, who carried his hands low, on the outside.
Khaliq (10st 12lbs), under no pressure to hurry his work, threw a few downstairs
in the second and caught the visitor's chin with a long right.

LUCKILY for Mexican Jesus Chavez,
it takes more than talent alone to
succeed in boxing - otherwise the
trip to the Bill Graham Auditorium in San
Francisco tomorrow (Saturday, November
10) to challenge precocious and brash
American Floyd Mayweather for the
WBC's super-featherweight crown would
be a wasted one.

Championships. They met yet again as pros
in December 1963, Phil completing the hattrick.
