AGONY and the ecstasy . . . a dejected Thomas Hearns is rescued by referee Richard Steele,

Marvin retained his undisputed middleweight title with a third round stoppage win on Monday in
Las Vegas. Ringside report on pages 12-13.

KOSTAS PETROU of Birmingham won the vacant British
welterweight title by stopping Tooting's Rocky Kelly in the
ninth round at the Dolphin Centre, but those bare lines
don't do justice to the drama and excitement conjured up
by their magnificent fight which will surely be one of the
fights of the year.

IN THE other title fight on the Darlington bill Sylvester
Mittee made a successful first defence of his Commonwealth
welterweight title by outpointing Coventry's valiant
Martin McGough in a 12-rounder that contained almost as
much drama as the Kelly-Petrou classic.

DANGEROUS Buster Drayton came so close to breaking
into the middleweight big time as he dropped the closest of
points decisions to top contender James Kinchen in their
10 rounds main event at York Hall.
The Sunday evening NBC-TV show was televised live in
the US.

UNBEATEN former European, Commonwealth, and
British light-middleweight champion Herol Graham looks
t o begin the first stage of title successes at the higher
poundage when he takes on Liverpool's Jimmy Price for
