BERNARD DUNNE will make a
voluntary defence of his European
super-bantamweight title against
Yersin Jailauov of Kazakhstan at the
Point, Dublin on Sunday March 25.
Dunne, 27, won the vacant belt at
the same venue in November when
he outpointed Esham Pickering on a
unanimous decision before a capacity
7,000 crowd.
Dunne has become so popular he
has outgrown the National Stadium.
Seating for 8,200 will be set up this
time, said happy promoter Brian
Peters, who added that Irish boxing
had never had it so good.

ENZO MACCARINELLI'S next
opponent, American (New Jersey)
Bobby Gunn, is talking a good fight
ahead of his WBO cruiserweight title
challenge in Cardiff on April 7.
Gunn has called the Welsh puncher
"a typical European fighter who stands
straight with his chin out and doesn't
move his head".
That's big talk from a man who
stands on the short side for a cruiser at
5ft 11 in and has lukewarm credentials.

SHANNON BRIGGS' March 10 WBO
heavyweight title defence against
No. 1 challenger SULTAN IBRAGIM0V
at New York's Madison Square
Garden has been postponed.
The champion (below) has
pneumonia and won't be able to
train again for at least four weeks.
The show could now be called
off, although nothing had been
confirmed at print time.
